Tour Operator & Tour Guide
What is a Tour Operator ?
A tour operator takes full control over every aspect of a trip, from booking to planning. They meticulously combine hotels, airport transfers, activities, restaurants, tours and more into an unforgettable package holiday. While not all tours include these exact elements, they serve as a powerful example of what can be included.
However similar their roles may seem at first glance, there is a fundamental difference between a tour operator and a travel agent. The tour operator assumes complete responsibility for creating the package and has the ability to sell directly to consumers. On the other hand, the travel agent acts as an intermediary by selling pre-existing packages to consumers.
In simple terms:
A tour operator – actively runs and operates tours.
A travel agent – purely acts as an agent for holidays by selling established tours that have already been provided
What is a Tour Guide?
A Tour Guide is a person who guides visitors for a fee, interpreting cultural and natural heritage and is effectively in charge of the group for the duration of the tour.
Tour guides are the vital ambassadors of a country, warmly welcoming visitors and bidding them farewell with lasting impressions. They are knowledgeable interpreters of both cultural and natural heritage, guiding tourists in their preferred language while possessing specialized qualifications recognized by relevant authorities.
These remarkable individuals not only point out the way and lead explorations, but they also serve as guardians of specific locations or even whole countries. Their expertise is acknowledged under section 50 of the Tourism Act No. 3 of 2014, defining tourist guides as registered individuals who accompany travelers within their journey or visitation to any place within the Republic.
Their role extends beyond mere companionship; they enrich experiences through valuable information and insightful commentary for which they receive compensation.
